Speaker: Stefan Wolansky Regional Sales Manager, Cape Classics

We tasted 6 superb wines from Cape Classics. Prices are medium NY area prices found on the Web. Bayten Sauvignon Blanc 2018 was the Favorite of the White Flight. Glenelly Estate Reserve Red 2013 (Stellenbosch) was the Favorite of the Red Flight.

All the wines showed well. It was an amazing tasting of great wines. Monterey Jack of Cabot Cheese of Vermont was provided with the tasting.

Flight I: White Full Retail Price $
Excelsior Chardonnay 2018 (Robertson)
The 2018 Excelsior was 25% fermented in new French oak and 25% fermented with wild yeast. It has a detailed, fresh citrus peel and light passion fruit bouquet, the oak neatly integrated. The palate is taut and fresh, offering a lovely twist of sour lemon on the entry, moderate depth and a taut, quite saline finish. Excellent.
Bayten Sauvignon Blanc 2018 (Constantia)
Elegant, mineral-tinged whites. Zesty flavors of passion fruit, melon, kiwi and lime are backed by prominent herbal notes and a mineral edge. It exhibits an elegance typical of cool climate Sauvignon Blanc.
Terre Brulee Chenin Blanc 2018 (Swartland)
Pretty yellow apple, mirabelle plum and white peach flavors are with honeysuckle and verbena notes. Shows good length on the finish, with a whiff of shortbread. 91 points Wine Spectator.

Flight II: Red Full Retail Price $
B Vintners Black Bream Pinot Noir 2016 (Walker Bay)
Earthy aromas of forest floor and rooibos tea are front and center on the nose of this pretty Pinot. Notes of crunchy red berry, pomegranate and red cherry with a dusting of cocoa. Silky in feel and texture, it's medium in weight and well balanced, with lively acidity and just-ripe red fruits that flood the palate and finish with a mouthwatering zest.
Topiary Syrah 2015 (Franschhoek)
This is a straightforward yet not overly expressive Shiraz, with subtle notes of currant and plum skin on the nose and mouth. The structure is easy and approachable, with soft tannins and fruit-skin flavors that lend subtle grip through the licorice-laced finish. Drink now.
Glenelly Estate Reserve Red 2013 (Stellenbosch)
Glenelly estate reserve is the signature red blend of the estate. Rich powerful aromatics of red fruits, plum and blackberries initially present themselves, followed hints of savory, spicy Syrah with touches of cedar and floral tones. The palate entry has good richness of ripe fresh fruit and pepper-spice supported by a firm, balanced tannins. Very good oak integration with a fresh long finish.

Blend: 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Syrah, 11% Petit Verdot, 6% Merlot. The Favorite of this Flight.
