We tasted the finest wines from Jean Luc Columbo, hailed as the “wine winemaking wizard” of the Rhone. We enjoyed a detailed pictorial tour of the Rhone and tasted 12 amazing World Class wines, Prices are full markup retail price. We asked for one vote for favorite White, one votes for favorite Flight III Red and one vote for favorite Flight IV Cornas Red. Hermitage Le Rouet Blanc 2010 was the favorite White, Chateauneuf du Pape Les Bartavelle 2009 was the favorite Flight III Red, Cornas Les Ruchets 2000 was the favorite Flight IV Cornas. All liked Rose Cape Bleue 2012. The cheese was provided by Cabot Cheese of Vermont.

Condrieu Amour de Dieu 2011
Grapes: 100% Viognier. Golden yellow in color, aromas of flowers and peaches. A rich, full bodied aromatic wine with a long elegant finish. Perfect accompaniment with fresh seafood.

Saint Peray La Belle de Mai 2010
Grape Variety: 80% Rousanne, 20% Marsanne. Aged 14 months on the lees in oak barrels. Golden color. Aromas of citrus and a little vanilla. Full bodied with minerality, ripe fig, and pear flavors. Rich with crisp acidity on the palate with a long finish. Serve with white meat, shellfish and fresh cheese.

Hermitage Le Rouet Blanc 2010
Grape Variety 70% Marsanne, 30% Rousanne. 50 year old plus vines on granite hill of Hermitage. Fermentation takes place at low temperatures of 54-55°F for 1-1.5 months. The wine is stirred with the lees once a week before fermentation takes place. The wine is then aged for two years in two-, three- and four-year-old oak barrels. Deep ruby color. Nose of candied fruit. Rich, round and honey with spice on the finish. The favorite of the White Flight.

Rose Cape Bleue 2012
67% Syrah 33% Mouvedre Vinification
Traditional “saignée” method is used – where the crushed red grapes are soaked until the desired color is achieved. The must is then fermented for two to three weeks in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, clarified, stabilized and bottled immediately. Light pink color. Aromas of peach, strawberry, and rose petal. Round and elegant. Complex, with intriguing notes of raspberries, fresh cherry, and black olive on the long finish. A very nice wine.

Cotes du Rhone Les Abeilles Rouge 2010
50% Granache 30% Syrah 20% Mouvedre, 25 year old vines, dark purple color. Red fruit, leather and spice on the nose and palate. Short finish.

Chateauneuf du Pape Les Bartavelle 2009
45% Syrah, 35% Grenache, 20% Mourvedre 50 year old vines. Aging: 18 months in large casks with a small portion in one to two year old oak barrels. Not filtered but fined. Dark purple color. Aromas of ripe red fruit, spice, thyme, rosemary the “garrigue”. Full mouth feel, with ripe fruit, smooth tannins and a long finish. The favorite of this flight.

Crozes Hermitage Les Fees Brunes 2010
100% Syrah. 60 year old vines from a single vineyard planted on the terraced granite slopes of this renowned appellation, in the northern sector of the Rhone valley, located on the left bank of the Rhone. Aged 15 months in new and 1 to 2 year old oak barrels. Color: dark purple. Elegant and complex nose with layers of spice, blueberries, and mineral. Mouth - filling cherry, black plum, spicy, mineral, silky. Long finish.

Cote Rotie la Divine 2010
95% Syrah, 5% Viognier. 30 year old vines on steep micashiste terraces with sandy limestone topsoils. Aged for 18 months in oak barrels. .Deep ruby red in color. Dark fruit aromas of black cherries, red fruit, violets, plums, black berries, and smoke. The palate has strong flavors of blackberry. A complex, well balanced wine with a long finish.

100% Syrah. 20 year old vines Aged 18 months in French Oak Barrels (30% new/ 70% 1-3yr) Deep red color. Nose of black fruits, mineral, and fig. Big mouth feel with firm tannins. Rich, concentrated and spicy with an elegant long finish.

100% Syrah 90 year old vines. Single vineyard. ,Aged 20 – 24 months in 1/3 new, 1/3 1-year old, 1/3 2 year old oak barrels. Deep Black color. Black fruit aromas of blackberry and blueberry with spices and vanilla. A full bodied wine with impressive structure and balance.
