Speaker: Will Comotto, Piccini Sales & Marketing United States

The family-owned Piccini Winery was established in 1882 by Angiolo Piccini. In 1920, his son Mario continued its development by extending the company’s business across the domestic market in Italy. Piccini entered a second phase of rapid growth in the early 1960s, under the leadership of third-generation Pierangiolo Piccini. In 1983, Mario Piccini joined his father and helped make the U.S. market a priority, in a successful effort that strengthened the Piccini name. Through the use of personal visits to American markets, on top of the production of high-quality wines, the Piccini Winery has solidified the family stronghold on the Tuscan wine segment in the United States. The Piccini winery is located in the heart of the Chianti Classico zone and possesses strong Tuscan traditions. Now in its 126th year of business, the Piccini Winery torch has been passed down to the fourth generation of Piccini's.

VALIANO "Poggio Teo" Chianti Classico DOCG 2006
Grape: 100% Sangiovese.

Chianti Classico "Poggio Teo" originates from slopes of the hill of the same name in a typical Tuscan landscape like a little corner of paradise where time seems to stand still.

What distinguishes one high quality wine from another is the land: the composition of the soil and the subsoil, the micro-climate, exposure to the sun and so on.

Chianti Classico "Poggio Teo" is made from hand selected Sangiovese grapes grown at 400m a.s.l and cultivated on land traditionally used for wine growing since the Etruscan Period. These features combine to create the distinctive and clear-cut character of Chianti Classico "Poggio Teo". The grapes from the "Poggio Teo", vineyard are harvested by hand in late September when they have reached their peak of maturity. Only the most carefully selected fruit is used to create this particular wine. Maceration takes place in stainless steel vats for 10-15 days and during this phase the wine undergoes alcoholic fermentation at a temperature no higher than 82-84*F.
By the end of the year the wine has completed its malolactic fermentation and is then racked into oak barrels of various sizes for several months of aging. The wine undergoes further maturation in bottles before it is ready to be sold. Intense aromas of anise, licorice and blackberry. Full-bodied, with a pretty core of ripe fruit, fine tannins and a creamy, fruity finish. Best from 2008 through 2011. The favorite of this flight.

PICCINI "Memoro" Rosso Italia Blend NV
Piccini has blended together wines from the furthermost regions of Italy: Venetian Merlot, Primitivo from Puglia ‘the heel of Italy’, Sicilian Nero d’Avola and a good splash of Montepulciano from the mid-Italian region of Abruzzo. Aromas of cherry, chocolate covered raisins and a hint of espresso meld nicely into a blend of coffee and tobacco flavors with a sweet edge of dried cherries. A lovely not too sweet Port like wine. Everyone loves it particularly for the price.
