Founded in 1934, Ste. Michelle Winery pioneered grape growing in Washington State. Ste. Michelle Wine Estates established in 1986 produces and markets a broad portfolio of premium wines from vineyards around the world with more than 4,200 acres of vineyards in Washington, Oregon and California. In addition to Chateau Ste. Michelle, Ste. Michelle Wine Estates today includes: Columbia Crest, Domaine Ste. Michelle, Snoqualmie, 14 Hands, Red Diamond, Col Solare, Northstar, Spring Valley Vineyards, Erath, Conn Creek, Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars, Villa Mt Eden and Hawk Crest. They are also the importers of the wines of Antinori, Nicolas Feuillatte and Villa Maria Estates. The company has quickly grown to rank among the top ten premium wine companies in America and sells more than 30 million bottles of wine annually. The Wine Advocate said,” Chateau Ste Michelle, Washington's largest winery, continues to demonstrate that being big is not incompatible with high quality”. Their wines continue to win awards from Wine Spectator, Parker and Wine Enthusiast.

14 Hands Hot to Trot Red, Columbia Valley, WA 2008 was the favorite of Flight I, Villa Antinori Rosso, Tuscany – 2006 was the favorite of Flight II. Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars Artemis, Napa Valley CA 2007 was the favorite of Fight III. Guado al Tasso II Bruciato, Bolgheri Tuscany 2006 was the favorite of Flight IV, and Col Solare, Columbia Valley, WA -2006 was the favorite of Flight V. All the wines showed well and displayed Chateau St Michelle Wine Estates high quality and reasonable price. Everyone had a fabulous time. The Sharp Cheddar Cheese was provided by Cabot Cheese Vermont.

Villa Maria Private Bin Merlot/Cabernet, Hawke's Bay, NZ - 2008
Grapes: 72% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, and 4% Malbec. Aged for 12 months in older French oak. Red cherry and raspberry on nose and palate with cedar spice with some tannin and medium finish. A very approachable wine which is soft and drinkable now and goes well with food.

Columbia Crest V-10 Red, Columbia Valley, WA - 2008
Grapes: Syrah, Cinsault, Viognier and Mourvedre with small percentage of other grapes in blend. Grapes were destemmed and crushed allowing 20% whole grapes remaining, then inoculated to begin fermentation. Some of the components of the final blend aged 12 - 14 months in French and American oak barrels. Aromas of strawberry and spice. A fruit – forward wine with a soft palate of ripe plum and blackberries, balanced and a silky finish.

Grapes: Syrah, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Mourvedre with small percentages of other grapes in blend. Ruby color. Aged in French and American oak for 10 - 12 months. Generous aromas of ripe berries and dark stone fruits. Cherries and plum are on the palate with soft and velvety tannins. The favorite of this Flight.

Flight II
La Braccesca Sabazio, Rosso di Montepulciano, Tuscany - 2006
Grapes: 85% Prugnolo Gentile - 10% Merlot - 5% Canaiolo. Aged for 4 months in large oak barrels. Ruby red color. Rosso di Montepulciano is a younger version of Vino Nobile, meant to be accessible and enjoyable early on. Intense nose of mature red berry fruit. It is well balanced and pleasing on the palate.

Villa Antinori Rosso, Tuscany - 2006
Grapes: 55% Sangiovese, 25% Cabernet, 15% Merlot and 5 % Syrah. Aged 12 months in French, American and Hugarian oak and 8 months in bottle before release. Ruby red color. Red berries and vanilla aromas. Medium - full bodied , elegant and complex. Balanced. A long finish. A superb “Super Tuscan”. The favorite of this Flight.

Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Artemis, Napa Valley CA 2007
Grapes: 92% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Merlot Aged 18 months in French oak, 33% new barrels. Aromas of black fruit, blackberry, currant, plum, nutmeg, and rosemary. Full bodied, complex and rich. Long finish. The favorite of this Flight.

Conn Creek Cabernet, Napa Valley CA - 2006
100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Aged for 26 months in 40% new and 60% 1 yr old French oak. This wine is a blend of fruit from nine of the 15 sub - AVAs. (American Viticultural Areas). Aromas of rich dark fruit, chocolate and toasted oak. On the palate, dark, cherry and plum flavors blended with spice, chocolate and licorice. A balanced, rich and long finish. A classic California Cabernet.

Chateau Ste Michelle Indian Wells Cabernet, Columbia Valley WA - 2008
A blend of grapes grown in the Wahluke Slope AVA, Washington’s newest AVA. 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Syrah, 1% Malbec, 1% Merlot, aged for 14 – 16 months in new American and French oak. Up front dark fruit, black berry and dark cherry aromas and flavors. A decadent, high alcohol, lush, fruit forward, mouth filling wine.

Stella Maris, Columbia Valley, WA - 2005
Grapes: 77% Merlot, 16% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Syrah. Aged for 17 months in 60% French and 40% American oak, 65% new barrels. Aromas of vanilla, cherry and raspberry, with leather notes. Concentrated fruit on the palate. Medium bodied, soft, smooth and approachable finish.

50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% merlot, 20% Syrah. Aged 8 months in oak and 6 additional months in the bottle prior to release. Intense ruby red color. Fruity aromas of plum, mint and green tea. Full bodied, with smooth tannins and a long finish. The favorite of this Flight.

Col Solare, Columbia Valley, WA - 2006
72 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot and 2% Syrah

Aged for 21 months in 75% French and 25% American oak, all new barrels. Aromas and palate of black cherry, currants and blackberry blend with vanilla and milk chocolate notes. Rich tannins and a long finish. The favorite of the Flight.
