The Torres family is synonymous with quality the world over. The major producer in Spains's Penedes region, Torres has expanded its portfolio to include wines from Ribera del Duero, Priorato, and Rioja. Torres also produces highly regarded, award-winning wines in Chile and California. We tasted eleven fantastic wines. Las Mulas Sauvignon Blanc (Chile) 2012 tied for favorite White with Vina Esmeralda- 2011 Moscato D.O.Catalunya. Celeste 2009, Tempranillo – D.O. Ribera del Duero was the favorite Light Red in Flight III. Mas La Plana “Black Label” Cabernet Sauvignon - 2007 was the favorite Red of Flight IV and most liked Sparkling Santa Digna Esteladao 2011 Pais- Central Valley (Chile).

All the cheese was provided by Cabot Cheese Vermont.

Gran Vina Sol 2011, Chardonnay – D.O. Penede's
85% Chardonnay and 15% Parellada
Pale yellow color with green hues., Flower and ripe peach aromas and a touch of vanilla due to a short period of aging in French oak. Elegant, complex.

Las Mulas Sauvignon Blanc (Chile) 2012
Organic grapes. No pesticides. Pale yellow color. Aromas of ripe tropical fruit. Silky on the palate. Crisp, balanced with good acid and a long finish. Tied for favorite of the White Flight.

Vina Esmeralda - 2011 Moscato - D.O.Catalunya
85% Moscatel and 15% Gewurztraminer. Pale yellow color. Aromatic wine with floral aromas of peach, rose and jasmine and spice. Fresh crisp and elegant on the palate with floral, fruity flavors and balance. Excellent with asian cuisine and light pasta. Tied for favorite of the White Flight.

80 % Carmenere, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon
6 months in american oak. Cherry color with aromas of blackberry Elegant on the palate. More forward fruit, good structure and well balanced.

Ibericos, Rioja,- 2010
100% Tempranillo. 18 months in American and French oak. Deep red cherry color. Black fruit with toasted oak on the nose. On the palate it has black fruit with smooth tannins and a long finish. A true Rioja.

Gran Coronas 2009, Cabernet Sauvignon – D.O. Penedes
85% Cabernet Sauvignon,15% Tempranillo.
12 months in oak. Rich dark ruby color. Intense black fruit aromas of black pepper, blackberry, prunes, and jam. Silky texture, and oak and cocoa on the finish.

Celeste 2009, Tempranillo – D.O. Ribera del Duero
100% Tempranillo. Aged for 12 months in French and American oak. Complex nose of cedar, exotic spices, espresso, and blackberry. This is by a , spicy, ripe, layered wine that will evolve for another 3-4 years and drink well through 2021 if not longer. The favorite of the Lighter Reds.

Cordillera 2008, Carignan – Central Valley (Chile)
Dark red color. Aroma of black fruits with tobacco,vanilla and pepper. Silky and jammy on the palate with layers of spice, licorice, blueberries. Well balanced and long finish. It can be aged for 3 - 5 years.

Garnacha, Syrah, Carinena blend.
80 year old super vines. Dark red wine. A powerful and elegant blend. Jam, spice and toasted notes on the palate. Silky tannins with a long finish.

Mas La Plana "Black Label" Cabernet Sauvignon - 2007 - D.O. Penedes
18 months in oak. Deep dense purple color. Intense bouquet with subtle oak - hints of red berries and cherries. Full, elegant and pronounced aftertaste with ripe tannins A dark and brooding wine which has a very long finish. The favorite of this flight.
